10 Best Pop Culture Inspired Halloween Costumes for 2023
My favorite holiday Halloween is just over a month away so it’s time to start planning our gag-worthy costumes. Anyone can be a vampire or a sexy pirate, but I like to be timely and play into events that have happened in the past year. So to make it easy, I’ve compiled a list of 10 major looks that have caught my attention since last October.
Some of these are from blockbuster movies or summer concert tours. Others are celebrity couples who have made headlines and popular tv characters. Grab your candy bucket, and let’s check out the best fits of 2023.
BARBIE AND KEN
As the highest-grossing film of the year to date (nearly $1.5B), everyone will recognize this iconic duo. It inspired an entire Barbiecore trend, and it’s versatile enough to wear solo, with your partner, as a group, or with kids.
WEDNESDAY ADDAMS
The award-winning Netflix show debuted after the holiday last year so most people missed out on the opportunity to represent their favorite goth outcast and re-enact the viral dance.
DOJA CAT
The Grammy-award winner dropped everyone’s jaws when she arrived bald and covered head-to-toe in 30,000 Swarovski crystals. A good DIY costume if you want to “Paint the Town Red” like Doja.
BEYONCÉ RENAISSANCE TOUR
Queen Bey turned heads with every look during her shows this summer. One of the most iconic was her life-sized chrome horse and disco ball cowboy hat. Members of the Beyhive can even recycle their silver get-up from the concert to get an extra use out of it.
TRAYLOR
Taylor Swift made the relationship official when she attended Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce’s game recently. She fangirled in the suite alongside his mom, and the new duo held hands as they left the stadium. This easy couple’s costume can be accomplished with a white tank and some KC Chiefs gear.
AHS: DELICATE
This month, Kim Kardashian made her acting debut in the ever popular American Horror Story series. Season 12 features the reality star as a no-nonsense publicist who appears to have a dark side. Grab some friends if you’re going for the full trio of baby snatchers.
WILLY WONKA
Yet another remake of this childhood classic premiers in December. This time, the title character of Willy Wonka will be played by America’s favorite twink Timothee Chalamet. Get ahead of the curve with his rags-to-riches attire this season.
SAM SMITH GRAMMYS
Sam Smith, Kim Petras, Violet Chachki, Gottmik, and crew demanded attention at the Grammys this year with their sinful, seductive set. If you’re feeling sultry, this is a simple ensemble for a solo piece or a group.
SZA on SNL
The catchiest song this past winter was “Big Boys” from Saturday Night Live. Hefty teddy bears danced behind SZA as she sang about cuffing season. This costume is another painless possibility. Just get a red, furry coat and enlist some gentle giants to wear Santa hats and flannels with their jorts.
I plan to dress up as a boozy blogger and scare the neighborhood kids with tales of adulthood while I pass out candy. Trick or treat, Betches!
